As Brisbane builds toward 2032, the Queensland State Netball Centre is positioned as a venue that genuinely reflects what sport means across the state – elite and grassroots, traditional and emerging, local and international. 

Since opening in 2019, the venue has welcomed over two million visitors, hosting over 400,000 attendees each year from across multiple sporting realms. 

A hub for every community 

While best known as the fortress of the Queensland Firebirds in Suncorp Super Netball, the venue’s true distinction lies in its extraordinary reach across Queensland’s sporting landscape.  

The facility’s eight indoor hard courts, 5000-seat showcourt and elite training facilities provide a home where grassroots participation intersects seamlessly with elite competition. 

Over nearly seven years, over 150 major sporting events have unfolded within these walls, many broadcast nationally and internationally.  

Beyond Suncorp Super Netball Grand Finals and Brisbane Bullets NBL fixtures, the venue has welcomed international volleyball teams from Argentina, China, and Russia, championship boxing title bouts and Australian national championships spanning taekwondo, judo, fencing and even speed cubing. 

Connecting diverse communities 

The venue has become particularly significant for inclusive and adaptive sports communities.  

Wheelchair Rugby’s Big Bash National League, Powerchair Football nationals and various Indigenous sporting carnivals highlight its role in providing accessible, high-quality facilities for participants who value such opportunities deeply.  

The PacificAus Netball Series and Oceania championships regularly bring together athletes and supporters from across the region, while emerging sports like Pencak Silat and jump rope find a prominent stage. 

The everyday fabric of sport 

Perhaps most importantly, the venue functions as a daily sporting home for Queensland families, schools, clubs and community groups.  

This constant grassroots activity weaves the facility into the everyday sporting lives of thousands of Queenslanders, creating connections that extend far beyond major event programming. 

Located just 12 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD in the Queensland Sport and Athletic Centre precinct at Nathan, the Queensland State Netball Centre is truly the beating heart of the state’s diverse sporting communities.
