Nissan Australia has claimed the inaugural naming rights of the Queensland State Netball Centre, the new $44 million indoor sports facility at Nathan which is home to the Queensland Firebirds and the Brisbane Bullets.
The venue is now called Nissan Arena.
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark congratulated Nissan Australia on securing the premiere position.
“Netball Queensland and Nissan Australia have enjoyed a strong partnership focused on growing the sport of netball in Queensland and this sponsorship takes that relationship to the next level,” Ms Clark said.
Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni joined the Queensland Firebirds, the Brisbane Bullets and Netball Queensland to welcome Nissan Australia to their new home in Nathan.
“This sponsorship builds on the successes of this first-rate venue, home of the Queensland Firebirds, which this year is also hosting the Brisbane Bullets 2019 season.”
Nissan Australia managing director Stephen Lester said this cemented their commitment to growing netball in Queensland.
“We are thrilled to name Nissan Arena, as this state-of-the-art facility represents all the qualities of elite performance that the Nissan brand represents,” he said.
The partnership commenced in October and will extend for three years.
“Appointing a naming rights sponsor for this magnificent venue is a key component in our overall venue management strategy,” Ms Clark said.
Nissan also owns the naming rights for the State Age and the State Titles events that support grass roots netball across the state.
“Nissan Arena is the centrepiece of netball in Queensland, and we are proud to be associated with this wonderful new venue and the wide assortment of teams that will call these courts home,” Mr Lester said.
“Nissan is committed to netball. Netball for Nissan is not just about national or Supernetball teams, our focus is on the community. These fantastic facilities will be enjoyed by many athletes of different standards, helping personal development and fostering a further love of the game.”
In addition to the show court, there are an additional seven hard courts, plus a gymnasium, high-performance training facilities and premium dining and recreation options.
These new facilities cater to local clubs, through to elite teams across netball and basketball, and further indoor sporting events and entertainment.
“Nissan Arena offers fans a full and glorious spectator experience, with a world-class stadium and premium facilities to enhance the thrill of game day,” Ms Clark said.
“Every one of our 5000 seats offers uninterrupted views of the action and fans can virtually count the beads of sweat on the athletes,” she said.
Netball is one of the biggest grassroots sports in Queensland with more than 100,000 participants involved in the sport every week.
“Our story is one of strong growth, support and inclusiveness and we are thrilled to welcome Nissan Australia to the fold,” Ms Clark said.
