Nissan Arena First Birthday Celebrations

Nissan Arena First Birthday Celebrations

The Queensland Firebirds were thrilled to join in the first birthday celebrations for their home, Nissan Arena, in February.

In its first year, the venue hosted more than 240,000 people attending everything from major sporting rivalries to social tournaments and community events.

Along with Queensland Netball representatives, the Queensland Firebirds marked the milestone (and ate cake) with their sporting siblings the Brisbane Bullets, who share the official home base.

Opening on 24 February 2019 as the Queensland State Netball Centre, it is the state’s first-ever dedicated home for netball: bringing elite training, competition and community facilities to the State’s most popular female sport. It was re-named Nissan Arena late last year, as part of the company’s strong history of sponsoring and growing netball in our State.

As well as being the high-performance home of the Firebirds and Bullets, the arena also hosted international and domestic men’s volleyball – as well as other international events like FIBA Asia Cup matches, with Australian men’s basketball team the Boomers taking on New Zealand’s Tall Blacks.

With a world-class show court, gym, high-performance training facilities, and premium dining and recreation options, Nissan Arena is a dream for athletes, coaches and fans alike.

But it’s not just a win for high-level competition: the arena is also a hub for kids and communities with eight indoor hard courts for a wide range of events.

From walking netball and social netball tournaments through to Future Firebirds clinics and camps for 5 to 15-year-olds, Nissan Arena brims with activities that encourage wellbeing, confidence and healthy activity for all ages.

It also hosts events to galvanise tangible community support. For the recent United for the Fires, we joined with Netball Queensland to provide a day of festive fun at Nissan Arena to raise funds and support people affected by the devastating bushfires.

As the 2020 teams gets primed for their seasons ahead, we can’t wait to help make Nissan Arena’s second year exciting, inspiring and super-fun. After all, our home is your home.
