Viviana Ruiz headlines World Title fight at Nissan Arena – A celebration of women in sport

NISSAN Arena will host a night of elite boxing this Saturday, April 26, headlined by a world championship bout that’s set to inspire and empower.

Brisbane-based boxer Viviana Ruiz will challenge reigning champion Maria Rivera for the WBA Interim Flyweight World Title, marking a major milestone in her extraordinary journey from Colombian engineer to world title contender.

Ruiz, 40, began her boxing career in Australia after moving from Bogotá, Colombia, where she was working as an electronics engineer.

Initially looking for a way to improve her physical and emotional wellbeing, she walked into a gym in Sydney and discovered a passion that would redefine her life. Now, with a record of seven wins (four by knockout) and just one loss, and as the current WBA Oceania Flyweight Champion, Ruiz is stepping into the global spotlight – on home turf.

“This will be one of the sporting events of the year. I am so proud of Viviana and the journey she has taken to have this opportunity to secure a world title. Along with Joe Goodall defending his title, it promises to be a night of excitement and entertainment for all,” Steve Scanlan, CEO ARC Sports Management said.

Ruiz vs Rivera headlines a packed fight card that also features:

Joe Goodall (11-2) defending his WBA Oceania Heavyweight Title against hard-hitting Bowie Tupou (29-6)

Rising star Clay Waterman (13-2) in a critical IBF Pan Pacific Light Heavyweight bout against veteran King Davidson (23-4)

Nissan Arena is proud to showcase elite women’s sport on this international stage.

“To have the opportunity to fight for a world title is a dream come true and in my hometown makes it even more special. It would never have been possible without the support of Mike Roddy from Techforce Recruitment and Daniel Hannay from Hannay Lawyers!” Viviana Ruiz said.

Tickets are on sale now through Ticketek website: Ticketek, with full fight night details available at www.nissanarena.com.au.
